Sunnyvale, January 8, 2007 —StarNet Communications of Sunnyvale (California) announces a major innovation in PC X server solutions with X-Win32 Flash, the industry’s first PC X server that runs from a standard USB flash drive.
X-Win32 Flash allows users to install the PC X server onto a USB drive, plug it into any Windows PC and immediately access applications on remote Unix and Linux servers. Nothing is installed on the host PC and nothing remains when the USB device is removed.
“Flash represents the biggest improvement in PC X server functionality since we pioneered the integration of SSH connections in 2000,” said Steven Schoch, StarNet co-founder and Chief Executive Officer. “X-Win32 Flash essentially obsoletes the current generation of locally installed PC X servers. Our customers will gain enormously in terms of mobility and personal productivity. Being able to take your pre-configured sessions to any PC in a conference room, a cleanroom, manager’s office or home computer without having to install anything or deal with licensing and purchasing issues is extremely convenient and cost effective.”
There is no premium. X-Win32 Flash will retail at the same US$225.00 per license as the company’s flagship X-Win32. “Our strategy has always been to add functionality and performance, not cost,” Schoch said.
X-Win32 Flash is delivered via electronic download. Customer can also order X-Win32 Flash pre-installed and licensed on USB drives ranging from 1 GB to 4 GB.
PC X servers are used by millions of electrical and mechanical engineers, software developers, network and server administrators and others who use their Windows-based computers to access applications residing on powerful Linux and Unix servers. “StarNet continues to lead the PC X server industry with innovative new functionality that allows users to be more productive. Because Flash also increases overall IT security by eliminating duplicate installations on unsecured computers, we expect a swift migration to X-Win32 Flash among our existing customers and customers of other PC X servers,” Schoch said.
StarNet Communications Corp., founded in 1989, develops and markets X11 solutions on the Windows platform for corporate, educational and government organizations. StarNet's family of X-Win32 PC X server products offers cost-effective, best-of-breed X terminal emulation solutions. Based in Sunnyvale, Calif., the company is privately held.
